Final days of February

I must admit, I'm always a little happy to see February end. It means we're closer to spring! My daffodils are starting to push through the ground and it was a little warmer this week (although it's supposed to snow this weekend). We managed to get outside and play for a while yesterday and the kids had fun riding bikes.

We have had a pretty good week. Silas had an ophthalmologist appointment on Wednesday and he was a little trooper. Our international adoption doctor recommended he go to the dentist and eye doctor within one year of being home, just to have everything checked out. We have done both now! The appointment went well. The good new is that Silas does not need glasses. The bad news is that he does not need glasses - yet. Poor little fellow - he could not wear regular glasses with his microtia so they would have to have a band and he already has a band on from his BAHA! It's sad, but Jason and I were able to laugh about it. Thankfully he has a contagious personality and is loved by all regardless of how many banded appliances he will need to wear. : ) Jason said all we need is headgear and he'll be all set! : )

Realistically, it will probably be a few years before he actually has to get the glasses. The doctor told me as many as 2/3 - 3/4 of Asian people are nearsighted. Silas is nearsighted but also has an astigmatism which is actually helping him compensate for his nearsightedness right now. Once he grows a little more and his eyes grow, he will need to wear glasses.

Silas also woke up this morning with a fever. He's been sick almost constantly since we brought him home. Never anything serious, but always seems to have a runny nose or a little cold. Due to the microtia, it's impossible to tell if he has an ear infection. The Dr. did see a little fluid on his ear that's a little more open today so he's on an antibiotic.

Last weekend my little nephew was baptized. Here are a few pictures from the big day.

I'm glad you could both find the humor in the eye appointment. And Jason's comment about the headgear made me laugh out loud! I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

Your parents look like they're in grandbaby heaven! I bet they couldn't be prouder. :) And good news on the glasses! Our opthamologist didn't say if M would need them in the future, but did tell me about the commonness of nearsightedness in Asians. Pleeeaaaase no glasses for either kiddos! :)
